Bellydance / Raqs Sharqi

All levels

Raqs Sharqi is the correct term for this dance, meaning Oriental Dance.
The dances that are practiced in the Middle East & parts of North Africa.
The word Bellydance doesn’t exist in the Arabic language.
For clarity & simplicity I use the term Bellydance, but it is indeed Raqs Sharqi.

That said, this class includes a bit of everything that makes Bellydance such a fantastic dance & practice for the body, mind & overall well-being.

This class is suitable for dancers with no or little experience with Bellydancing, and for experienced dancers that would like to refine & improve their technique.

Classes are for women only.

Things we practice
  • Developing basic posture, techniques, moves.
  • Strengthening exercises for the abdominal muscles & whole body to improve posture, balance & body awareness.
  • Shimmying, shaking & having fun together.
  • Various Oriental Dance choreographies.
  • Mindfulness exercises for femininity, sensuality, and self-embrace.
What to wear
  • Wear something you feel pretty and comfortable in and that doesn’t restrict your movement.
  • Shoes: barefoot, socks or soft ballet shoes.
  • Scarf for the hips: If you have one bring it with you, if not I have some at the studio you could borrow or buy.
  • Your crown, because yes you are queen!

This lesson and teacher are pure magic! Sarah is so wonderful and welcoming, and actually teaches great moves no matter if you are just starting. A wonderful atmosphere, very safe, very joyful and so much fun. It has been the quickest hour ever 😉

This was the most fun I've had in weeks! Sarah is the loveliest teacher, with great energy and big warm smile. She helps you through the basics and also helps you enjoy dancing. The Dance Movement just opened this new space and it's going to be amazing. Come join! Let's create a group of happy belly dancers.

Sensual Bellydance Women’s Circle

Connect with yourself and others

In this 90 minute journey, you are invited in your own pace to connect with your body and sensuality. It’s not about dancing ‘sexy’ or a certain way, SENSUAL in this class is meaning ‘ENGAGING THE SENSES’ dancing and moving from within.

All through the magic & medicine of Bellydance we connect with ourselves, each other, dance, shimmy, shake, have fun, and share.

Please note
  • PLEASE BE ON TIME, arriving late disturbs the circle. If you arrive late you may not enter.
  • This class takes place 1x every month. Be mindful of the schedule.
  • Open for all levels, no prior experience with Bellydance needed.
  • Women only
  • Bring warm layers for comfort (sweater, socks, a scarf)
Things we practice
  • Usually there is a monthly theme to the circle that is announced a few days before on Instagram (for example: femininity – body image – menstrual cycle …)
  • Space for sharing and connecting with other wonderful women in the circle.
  • Space for community and connection.
  • Embodied movement and using the art & medicine of Raqs Sharqi (Bellydance) to connect with our own bodies and others.
  • Shimmying, shaking & having fun together.

The teacher is amazing! I came on a rainy and cold day when everything seemed so depressing, but then when I sat in the circle of women under the guide of the teacher, I felt that I’m so empowered and inspired by the energy! Great experience and very fun

Lova

Great class! I am new to belly dancing, but I felt very comfortable in this group of lovely women. Sarah has such a nice energy. I love how we moved from our feeling out, instead of from choreography in. I loved all the hip scarves in different colours for everyone to wear. Highly recommend and I will be back, this was fun!

Eva

Not the usual dance class! A mix of meditation, dancing, and fun in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
